Chap.5, "Witnessing: Is This A Dream?", p. 143 :

"When we dream, we see the dreamscape from the perpective of our dream ego. Although the entire world of the dream exists only as the content of our awareness, we identify our self with only a portion of that content - the dream ego that centers our experience of the dream world and presents itself as the locus of our awareness.
In a lucid dream, however, we experience another kind of awareness with different locus. [...] From the vantage point this provides, we can observe dream images precisely as dream images, thas is, as manifestations of the mind - not the mind of the dream ego but the mind of the dreamer who imagines the dream ego. In this way, we no longer identify only with the ego within the dream; our sense of self now encompasses the witness awareness of the whole dream state."
