"The boudaries we take to define our self aren't fixed but fluid and subject to constant change. Although the "I-Me-Mine" may seem to be an independent thing, it's really a shifting and impermanent construct [...].
One way to see this shiftiness up close is to watch what happens to the ego in the transitional zone between waking and sleeping. Here the waking ego starts to lose its grip on consciousness - thoughts turn colors, you overhear conversations happening inside you, and strange images make their way before your eyes. This breakaway of consciousness is one of the key features of the hypnagogic state."
