"The dream world and the waking world both seem real and solid, yet in neither case do we realize that whatever we take to be real and solid is always a mode of appearance [,..] and that modes of appearance by their very nature can't be separated from the mind.
[...] Although this idea might seem abstract or theoritical, contemplative traditions report that it's easier to transform negative emotions such as fear or anger into positive mental states when we can see those emotions as modes of appearance rather than substantial realities. The dream state offers a special setting for cultivating this skill because it contains powerful and intense emotions, while also affording a view of the deeper reaches of consciousness beyond such mental turbulence."
